I fear I’m developing an addiction to those little yellow reduced stickers, that feature in our supermarkets.
As much as I’d like to say that I always shop local rather than head to a supermarket, the fact is it isn’t always practical with my working hours, especially when my husband is away.
So my venture into Sainsburys this evening found me on the hunt for those little glints of yellow. There were some bargains to be had particularly amongst the veg, in the knowledge that some things would be fine well beyond their labelled date.
I will confess that I do enjoy the challenge of putting dinner together from the hap hazard produce bearing their yellow branding.
Late home and wanting something quick and simple I pan fried 2 mackerel fillets, in a little rapeseed oil and a knob of butter, having seasoned the fish well. I then wilted half a bag of spinach with a garlic clove and served. Tasty, simple and with those wonderful glints of yellow, £1.20.
